555 MW READY FOR COMMISSION IN CROSS RIVER
Speaking during the groundbreaking of UNICEM’s additional plant of 2.5 million metric tonnes per annum cement production in Mfamosing, Cross River State, President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed, that the 5,555megawatt power plant located in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State would be commissioned soon to increase power supply in Nigeria.
This good news came just few days after the Federal Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Brazilian firm, Benco Energie Limited, for the construction of a 700-megawatt (MW) combined cycle power plant in the Country. The Minister of Power had announced that Nigeria’s electricity generation profile had risen to approximately 4500 megawatts, there is also excess considerable spinning reserve compare to the less than 2500 megawatts which the country was struggling with before President Jonathans administration.
Governor of River state, Senator Liyel Imoke, applauded the presidents’ transformation agenda, which he said had given impetus to attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country. However, the President also assured Nigerians that his administration will continue to co-operate with several agencies to ensure steady progress in the country’s manufacturing sector which depend mainly on power.
